A house doesn’t make a home

A home is supposed to be a haven

A place of safety and comfort

But her house was never a home

It never belonged to her

Never welcomed her

Nothing more than an illusion

Cut and paste

Play face

She never felt protected or at ease

There was no safety net

The unsteady ground never seemed sound

Nothing but egg shells beneath her feet

Teeming with betrayals

The stability was nothing but frail

She longed to be a part of a happy home

To feel normal, To feel stable

Their home had never been hers

She observed things that children should not

Hear words one so young shouldn’t know

She felt the weight of the world on her shoulders

To mature ahead of her time

Her childhood years were on borrowed time

Moments that robbed happy thoughts and feelings

She felt lonely
