The Pretenders

It’s a fact of life that not everyone will be your cup of tea, just as you won’t be everyone’s.

Not everyone will like you, and that’s completely fair,
I won’t be fond of everyone either, maybe a chosen few.
However, I don’t actively dislike people, I just don’t think of them,
What truly gets under my skin is insincerity and artificiality they portray.
Aka the pretenders, the fake people who act as something they’re not.

Their smiles are forced, their words devoid of meaning,
Their sentiments are vacant, their kindness superficial,
They feign friendships, but their truth is concealed,
They’ll betray you discreetly, keeping their deceptions sealed,
They’d stab you in the back, in the blink of an eye, without second thought.

So, don’t be deceived by their sweet words and gestures,
As their true intentions are nothing but selfish, some will take advantage
Of your kindness for their own gains then discard you like a used up tissue,
So, don’t fall for the flattery and charms from the cunning fox,
With their silver tongue like Goldilocks.
