The siren of the night
She spent her nights alone,
with no one around save her phone,
which had millions of people at her fingertips.
She felt nevertheless lonely and isolated.
Sat on the windowsill,
the night air, cool breeze singing to her,
a lovely lullaby, calling to her like a night siren
The world came to a halt as
She stared blankly at the vast sky.
There was something lacking inside her,
an emptiness she couldn’t fill.
A void deep within.
Social media and the internet
are at her disposal,
ready to distract and persuade her
that she is happy for just a moment.
She yearned for something different,
something new, but dread, anxiety,
and fear took over.
Concerned with the what ifs,
what her family would think and say,
What they would do if she packed up and left,
went on that journey she had always wanted,
saw the world, lived the life she had dreamed.
What if she tried and failed,
For now, the only ones
who can hear her sorrows
are her cat and the
bittersweet abyss of the night sky?
